Library Remodeling to Begin in November
The Fleming County Public Library Board of Trustees, along with Director Wendy Johnston, is pleased to announce that a remodeling project for the main reading room and children’s area will begin on November 10, 2025.
The library has partnered with Collective Spaces Design Works, the same design firm that helped create the original library space in 2005–2007, to refresh and modernize the facility. Updates will include a new teen area, improvements to the children’s section, and general upgrades such as new flooring, paint, and updated finishes throughout the main space. The project will be completed by Momentum Commercial Construction, a local contractor selected through an open bidding process advertised in local newspapers earlier this year.
Library staff are excited for this project to get underway and are committed to continuing to serve patrons throughout the approximately 15-week renovation period. During this time, access to the main reading room, study rooms, and meeting spaces will be temporarily unavailable. Circulation services will be relocated to the Community Room, just inside the main entrance, where patrons can still check out new book titles, make copies, use public computers, and receive the same friendly customer service they’ve come to expect.
Special programs and events will take place at off-site locations, which will be announced through social media, local newspapers, and radio. The library’s drive-up window service will remain open, and patrons are encouraged to call ahead for pick-ups. Staff will also provide take-and-go crafts, games, and movie bundles, with special incentives for those using the drive-up window.
Patrons are encouraged to explore the library’s online resources during the remodel, including Libby e-books and audiobooks, Mango Languages, the KY Virtual Library, TeachingBooks, TumbleBooks, Educate Station, and more. Library staff will be available to assist with accessing or downloading these digital services.
The Bookmobile and porch drop-off services will also be expanded to reach patrons unable to visit in person. The weekly Bookmobile schedule will be shared on social media and in the newspaper. Ms. Mary and Ms. Kathy will continue visiting preschools, daycares, and local schools, and will host weekly preschool story hours at the Fleming County Extension Office. Adult programs will continue under Judy Kelley, with activities at the Fleming County Senior Center and Pioneer Trace Nursing Home, as well as other special winter events. Tween and Teen programs, led by Mr. Steven, will be announced soon, along with new TikTok and YouTube content featuring virtual story times and weekly updates.
The Board of Trustees and Director Johnston welcome any questions and encourage the community to stop by or call the library at 606-845-7851. Regular library hours will remain the same unless otherwise announced.
